In Richard Rumelt’s “Good Strategy / Bad Strategy” tome, makes a good observation re: strategy and leadership. He claims that one person may be responsible for both, but they are not the same thing. Leadership “inspires and motivates self sacrifice” which is vital in “change” or “transformation” initiatives as it helps the troops feel better about the necessary adjustments. On the other hand, strategy is “the craft of figuring out which purposes are both worth pursuing and capable of being accomplished.”
